Tickets Are Now Available for A Referendum Affair 2026

Tickets are now available for A Referendum Affair 2026, an afternoon of conversation, connection and community on the eve of Alberta’s referendum.
On Sunday, October 18, from 2 to 5 p.m. at 99ten in Edmonton, interVivos is bringing Edmontonians together for open, non-partisan conversations about issues shaping Alberta, Canada and our communities.
At interVivos, we believe stronger communities are built when people can talk across differences. We do not advocate for a political party, campaign or position. Our role is to create space for people to listen, learn, connect and better understand perspectives beyond their own.
Why the day before the vote?
The timing is intentional.
On the eve of the referendum, we want to move beyond political slogans, social media debates and echo chambers and create space for thoughtful, human conversations about three important topics:
Immigration;
The Constitution; and
Separation
A Referendum Affair builds on interVivos’ history of non-partisan election and civic engagement events. We want civic participation to feel accessible, welcoming and grounded in community.
You don’t need to be an expert, have a firmly held position or even be eligible to vote to take part.
Whether you have already voted, are still making up your mind, cannot vote, or simply want to better understand the perspectives of people in your community, there is a place for you in the room.
This isn’t a panel or a debate
A Referendum Affair does things a little differently.
Instead of sitting in an audience listening to a traditional panel, participants will gather in small groups for conversations with invited speakers. Speakers will rotate between tables, supported by trained volunteer facilitators, creating opportunities for more personal and meaningful conversations.
Our speakers are volunteers giving their time, knowledge and perspectives to the community. They are invited to help participants explore a specific issue, not to speak on behalf of interVivos or promote a particular outcome.
There is also room for different levels of participation. We hope you’ll join the conversation, but you’re equally welcome to listen, learn and reflect.
Creating a safe space doesn’t mean everyone will agree. It means creating the conditions for disagreement to happen respectfully, with curiosity and an openness to hearing from people with different experiences and perspectives.
We want the room to reflect Edmonton
A meaningful community conversation needs a range of voices in the room.
Alongside regular tickets, interVivos will provide free community tickets to reduce financial barriers and help bring voices into the conversation that may not always be represented.
Whether you have already voted, are still deciding, or aren’t eligible to vote, you belong in the room. The referendum may happen the next day, but the conversations it raises about Alberta, Canada and our communities affect all of us and will continue long after the ballots are counted.
Join us on October 18. Come curious. Ask questions. Listen. Share. And leave knowing a little more about the people and perspectives that make up our community.
