Celebrating 18 Years of interVivos — A Night of Reflection, Gratitude, and Purpose

ree

Over a year ago, on May 2, 2024, interVivos celebrated a significant milestone, our 18th  anniversary. As we reflect on that unforgettable night at The Common, we’re reminded of the power of community, mentorship, and momentum.

The evening was more than just a party. Yes, there was cake, raffle prizes, and an electric atmosphere, but what made the night truly special was the chance to pause and honour 18 years of mentorship, civic engagement, and leadership development. It was an opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been and look ahead to where we’re going.

We’re grateful to the many supporters and sponsors who helped make that event possible. Edmonton Downtown Business Association, Park Power,The Common, Ruby Gorgeous Salon, advisor Jackie Foord, Norwood Dental Centre, Aspen Zettel Photography, and Aradia Fitness stepped up for us, and their contributions helped us mark the occasion in a meaningful way.

One of the most impactful parts of the evening came from the voices of our community.

Navneet Chand, an interVivos board member and a former protégé, shared:

“I did not expect to have such a wholesome and memorable experience as I ended up having as a protégé. I am grateful to have participated in several different formal mentorship programs, from which interVivos has been a standout opportunity. This is because of the wholesomeness of the community that is fostered, the accessibility of the program to first-time protégés and mentors alike, and the proven track record of interVivos to provide mentorship as a community service not just in the moment, but as an ongoing movement of quality experiences.”

We also heard from Violet Wallace, a former protégé, who shared:

“interVivos gave me a space where I felt seen and supported. My mentor helped me navigate a difficult career transition and encouraged me to advocate for myself. It was more than a program — it was a turning point.”

Two-time mentor Lorephil Toledo, CEO of Canajan Inc., spoke about her own experience:

“Mentoring through interVivos has been a deeply rewarding journey. Every time I sit across from a protégé, I am reminded of the importance of listening, sharing, and growing together. It’s not just about giving back — it’s about mutual growth and inspiration.”

And finally, Soni Dasmopatra, a former protégé turned mentor and now an Assistant Professor at MacEwan University, reflected:

“interVivos was the first time I saw myself as someone who could lead and influence others. The mentorship I received helped shape my path, and now as a mentor, I see how powerful that cycle of support can be. It’s one of the most meaningful communities I’ve been part of.”

Why This Reflection Matters

Anniversaries aren’t just for celebrating — they’re for checking in. One year after our 18th, we’re proud to say we’ve continued to grow, evolve, and remain rooted in our core values. Whether it’s building connections across sectors or creating space for underrepresented voices, interVivos is committed to doing the work that matters.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us last year and to those who have supported us every step of the way since. Here’s to continued impact, new faces, and bold ideas for the future.
