For many mentorship programs, recruiting mentors is an ongoing challenge. In today’s climate of affordability pressures, skills shortages, and economic uncertainty, finding individuals who have both the expertise and the capacity to mentor can be difficult. Yet, mentorship remains essential to supporting inclusive workplaces and stronger communities.

Spotlight on Kayla Atkey

We were especially excited that Kayla Atkey, an interVivos mentor and proud former protégé, joined the panel to share her experiences. Kayla’s journey is a shining example of the power of mentorship—having once benefited as a protégé herself, she has come full circle to give back as a mentor. Her story highlights the ripple effect mentorship creates: when today’s protégés are supported, they are empowered to become tomorrow’s mentors.

Key Takeaways from the Discussion

  • Mentorship is more vital than ever. In times of uncertainty, mentors provide stability, guidance, and encouragement for emerging leaders and newcomers.

  • Impact drives recruitment. When potential mentors clearly see the difference they can make, they are more likely to commit.

  • Flexibility is key. Offering multiple ways to engage—whether short-term, virtual, or group mentorship—helps broaden the pool of mentors.

  • Mentorship creates a cycle of growth. Stories like Kayla’s prove that mentorship doesn’t stop with one relationship; it inspires a lasting culture of giving back.
